| The Lovely Doll |
|---|
| By Ellen Mey |
| Once upon a time there was a little eight-year-old girl. She grew up in a small family with only one brother. In that family were no secrets; they could talk about everything. Dad was a houseman, mum was the breadwinner. They didn’t have too much money, but they all were happy. That girl was a cute one, a good pupil and she was always willing to help whenever needed. | |

On her daily way to school, she always passed a small shop, where you could buy many different things. One day, she saw in the shop window a beautiful doll. She fell in love immediately. Back at home, she told her parents about it. She said, “Oh mum, dad. I love that doll so much. Please buy it for me. It is the only wish I have for Christmas.” Each day she came to that shop window. She couldn’t watch that doll enough because she was in love with her. |
| A few days later, she came home, and cried a lot. “That doll is gone, that doll is gone. Oh mum, what shall I do?” During the following days, she was still sad and unfocused. Finally on Christmas Eve, it was a tradition in that family to sing Christmas songs before going into the festively decorated living room. What did that girl see first? Among all the small gifts, that lovely doll was sitting under the Christmas tree. The girl wasn’t able to move. She stood still under the open door and was so surprised. “Oh mum, dad, my doll! Thank you so much.” She kissed her parents, took the doll in her arms and was happy, simply happy. That Christmas was the best that girl ever had. By the way, that doll is now 50 years old, very ruined, but still there. | |
