English Placement Test

Do you wonder what level of fluency you have reached in your use of English? Some people are just beginning to learn English, while others have been studying for many years. It is always helpful to know how much you have learned.

Of course, there are many tests like TOEFL, TOEIC, EIKEN and IELTS, but some people want a more casual approach.

Our English Placement Test is for your own enjoyment, and to help you measure your progress as you improve your English. Once you have purchased the test, it is yours forever! You may repeat the test without any further charge as you improve your English to see if you have reached a new level. (There must be at least 90 days between repeats of the test.)

The questions have been developed from the following:

actual examples of work by ESL students
my work with people who have difficulty learning and understanding English
my research of many English tests

I have also consulted some common proficiency scales to help determine the outcome and level placement.

The test has five sections, and includes exercises in English Grammar, English writing, English reading and English pronunciation. Each part of the test is progressively more difficult, since it measures skill levels from beginner to advanced.

If you have spoken English for a few years and decide you want to try the entire test, it will take you 4-5 hours to complete. Once you begin the test, you may decide to complete only Part One and Part Two, and then save the more difficult parts until you have taken a few courses here. That is fine! You do not need to complete every section. You will be able to do more sections the next time you take the test.

You will receive your results by email in 7 days. The results will include a printable certificate and suggestions for the best classes and discussions for your level.
