English Grammar
Learn only as much grammar as you need to use English correctly.
Many of you began to learn English when you were young, probably when you were in school. I am guessing that most of you were required to learn grammar. I am also guessing that most of you did not like learning grammar.
Learning some grammar is important if you want to use the language correctly. However, memorizing many grammar rules is quite pointless. It is impossible, when speaking in a natural conversation, to think about grammar rules as you choose your words. Also, most grammar rules have exceptions. This makes memorizing rules even more ineffective.
I believe that the best way to learn to use a language correctly is to know basic grammar rules, not necessarily memorize them, and then to practice them by writing the language. In the English forum, there are Daily English Practice Tips . Some students read the daily tip, then use it correctly in some practice sentences. Some of them also ask to have their forum posts corrected, so that they know they're using the tips correctly.
The grammar links on this page can be used in the same way as the Daily Practice tips. After reading about one of the listed items of grammar, you may submit practice sentences by e-mail or in the forum to be corrected. This shows you whether or not you know how to use the grammar correctly.
If you have questions about a particular area of grammar, please let me know in the forum or by email. I hope these pages will be helpful to you!
