Common Everyday Phrases

ill at ease

reality check

show someone the door

Amy: "I had two visitors today, Arthur. They were selling educational textbooks. Even though I was ill at ease, I let them come in to show me what they were selling."

Arthur: "That sounds great, Amy! Did you buy the books?"

Amy: "Well, almost. They were talking about how valuable these books would be for when our kids were doing homework. Then, suddenly, I did a mental reality check and realized that we don't have any kids. Even if we have kids soon, by the time they were old enough to do homework, these books would be outdated, so I showed them the door."

Arthur: "Wow, that was smart of you to remember about us having no kids. You're amazing, Dear!"
