Common Everyday Phrases

in the dark

days on end

Arthur: Hello? Oh, hi Mom."

Arthur's mother: "Hello, Son! I'm sorry to bother you at the office, but Thanksgiving is getting close, and you and Amy haven't invited me for dinner yet!"

Arthur: "Oh, I'm sorry, Mom. Actually, I'm kind of in the dark regarding Amy's plans for that day. I don't think she's looking forward to cooking for days on end to get everything ready."

Arthur's mother: "Oh, I'm sure you're right, Arthur. Making a complete Thanksgiving dinner is so much work! I have an idea...I'll bring the rolls, and I'll even bring the butter to put on them. That will help!"

Arthur: "Gee, Mom, I'm sure Amy will be relieved to hear that you're willing to help."
