Common Everyday Phrases

swear off

sure cure

Arthur: "Good morning, Dear. Did you sleep well?"

Amy: "Not really. I had wild dreams all night about drifting out to sea and catching a huge fish, and... well, it was awful! I think I'm going to have to swear off eating pizza just before bed."

Arthur: "I'm not sure you really have to be that extreme! I've heard that a sure cure for wild dreams is to eat ice cream just before bed, so maybe you could have ice cream right after your pizza. What do you think?"

Amy: (grinning) "I think I'll ask somebody else for advice."

give up or stop doing something
