on the other hand

Arthur: "Amy, how was your discussion today?"

Amy: "Well, someone asked Julie a question, and she got off the subject and started talking about something entirely different. On the other hand, what she was telling us was quite interesting."

off the subject = distracted from the original topic or subject

on the other hand = however, or an introduction to a different opinion
